ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Tuesday underscored the importance of herbal and traditional medicines, describing them as "the need of the hour."
Addressing a seminar on herbal and traditional medicines, the minister said there were currently no specific laws or regulations governing the sector. However, he said the Ministry of National Health Services had already forwarded proposed legislation to the Ministry of Law for review.
He said the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan would introduce regulations for herbal and traditional medicines within the next few weeks.
Mustafa Kamal clarified that the conference was not aimed to oppose other ways of treatments and medicines, emphasizing that every branch of healthcare has its own significance and role in patient care.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>While talking about health system of the country, he noted that Pakistan's healthcare system continues to expand to meet the needs of a growing population and rising healthcare demands.
"We are building hospitals and enhancing healthcare facilities across the country, reflecting the government's commitment to improving access to medical services," he said.
However, he stressed the need to focus on preventive healthcare and alternative treatment approaches to reduce the disease burden.
The minister said recommendations emerging from the two-day conference would be carefully reviewed and incorporated into future policymaking.
"We will examine the guidelines developed during the conference and ensure that Pakistan does not lag behind in this important field," he added.
