0.4m biodegradable bags being distributed as admin launches zero-waste Eid campaign

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th May, 2026) The district administration and Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC) have launched a comprehensive “Zero-Waste” campaign ahead of Eidul Azha to ensure a clean and hygienic environment across the district during the festive days.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddique while addressing a press conference at Multan Tea House here Monday. He informed that the administration has set a target to safely dispose of over 12,000 tons of animal waste during Eid days, adding that additional machinery and sanitation workers have been deployed in urban as well as rural areas to make the operation effective and uninterrupted

Chief Executive Officer of the MWMC Zulfiqar Ahmad, who was present on the occasion, said that more than 400,000 biodegradable bags are being distributed among citizens to facilitate environment friendly disposal of animal remains.

DC Nauman Siddique said that special sanitation measures have been initiated on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to maintain exemplary cleanliness arrangements during Eidul Azha.

Muhammad Nauman Siddique added that special teams have been deployed to ensure foolproof implementation of the zero-waste operation across the district. He said that 30 awareness camps have been established where citizens are being provided biodegradable shopping bags and guidance regarding proper disposal of sacrificial animals waste.

The DC further stated that dedicated staff has also been deployed at awareness camps to address sanitation complaints on an immediate basis.

The MWMC CEO said, modern machinery would be utilized for timely disposal of offal and waste and it would be ensured that company’s sanitation operation remains functional round the clock throughout Eidul Azha holidays.

He appealed to citizens to cooperate with sanitation staff and avoid throwing animal waste in open areas to help maintain cleanliness in the city.
