BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) A key meeting of the Divisional Committee on the “Grow More Cotton Campaign 2026” was held at the Commissioner’s Office Bahawalpur under the chairmanship of Irfan Ali Kathia to review strategies for promoting cotton cultivation, achieving targets, and addressing farmers’ concerns.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Commissioner (Coordination), Director Agriculture Extension, Managing Director Cholistan, Chief Engineer Irrigation, officials from relevant departments, and representatives of farmers. Deputy Commissioners of Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan participated via video link.
Director Agriculture Extension Bahawalpur Division, Muhammad Jameel Ghori, briefed the participants that climatic conditions this year are favorable for cotton cultivation, and market prices are expected to remain strong, offering farmers reasonable profits.
He informed that a target of cultivating cotton on 1.695 million acres has been set for the current season in Bahawalpur Division, out of which sowing on 625,000 acres has already been completed.
He further noted that, May 15 is the optimal deadline for cotton sowing, urging farmers to complete cultivation within this timeframe.
The Chief Irrigation Engineer, Bahawalpur Zone, informed the meeting that canal water availability is expected to remain satisfactory this year. The Irrigation Department will ensure water supply reaches tail-end areas to facilitate timely cultivation.
Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia directed that the assigned targets must be achieved at all costs. He instructed field teams of the Agriculture and Revenue Departments to reach out directly to farmers, providing guidance and advisory services at their doorsteps.
