11,434 livestock vaccinated, dewormed in riverine Multan

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jul, 2026) Rural education and Economic Development Society (REEDS) Pakistan and the Livestock & Dairy Development Department on Sunday launched a livestock vaccination and deworming campaign in 20 villages of Union Council 175 Sheni, Tehsil Jalalpur Pir Wala.

The drive, supported by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH) under the Flood Recovery and Resilience Project, aimed to protect livestock health and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable riverine communities ahead of the monsoon season.

A total of 11,434 large and small animals were treated during the campaign. Of these, 4,714 were vaccinated against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), 1,739 received Enterotoxaemia Vaccine (ETV), and 4,981 were dewormed to control internal parasites.

Dr Benjamin Barkat, Manager Program DRR at REEDS, lauded the Livestock and Dairy Development Department for its services to riverine communities and acknowledged the role of the village development committee in ensuring the campaign's effectiveness. He also credited the project team, including agricultural expert Shakeel and social mobilizers Naseem Jahan and Ghulam Yaseen, for the drive's success.

Hyacinth, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at REEDS, supervised the campaign to ensure quality service delivery to farmers.

Dr Uzair, Veterinary Officer at Jalalpur Pir Wala, appreciated REEDS Pakistan's efforts and stressed the importance of coordinated action among stakeholders in delivering veterinary services to underserved rural populations.
