LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Jun, 2026) Lahore Traffic Police on Wednesday have taken action against 2,279 vehicles and motorcycles during a special campaign against missing, non-standard and applied-for number plates across the provincial capital.
According to a spokesperson,challan tickets were issued to 1,137 vehicles over the past two days for operating without number plates, displaying non-standard registration plates or using applied-for plates.
The spokesperson said that action was also taken against 455 motorcycles and vehicles for displaying fancy number plates or registration plates that did not conform to the design prescribed by the Excise Department.
Furthermore,687 vehicles and motorcycles were fined for having broken front or rear number plates or for concealing vehicle identification.
Five criminal cases were also registered at various police stations across the city against individuals found using fake number plates.
More than 7,000 vehicle and motorcycle owners were educated and warned over minor traffic violations during the campaign.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO),Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said that a fine of Rs.3,000 was imposed for driving a car without a number plate, while a motorcyclist without a number plate is liable to a fine of Rs.1,000.
He warned that cases under fraud-related provisions would be registered against those using bogus or illegal green number plates, unauthorized blue lights and fake registration plates.
The CTO advised citizens to use their new universal registration number instead of the old number when transferring vehicle ownership.
Shirazi said that some motorists tamper with number plates to evade e-challans while lawbreakers often use fake registration plates to conceal vehicle identity.
He clarified that vehicles and motorcycles displaying number plates in accordance with the Excise Department’s prescribed design would not be challaned.
