ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) The district administration carried out operations across several Sunday markets in Islamabad to ensure implementation of official price lists and maintain order for shoppers.
Assistant commissioners visited different locations and took action against violations related to overpricing, encroachments, and illegal setups.
On Sunday, a large number of citizens visited weekly markets to buy essential items. Due to the increase in visitors, the administration increased monitoring and inspection activities. Officials focused on ensuring that vendors followed government-issued price lists and maintained product standards.
In Pakistan Town Sunday Bazaar, authorities arrested five individuals for setting up encroachments that blocked pathways and created problems for visitors. The administration stated that such encroachments cause difficulty for the public and will not be allowed. The arrested individuals were shifted to the local police station for further action.
In G-11 Sunday Bazaar, eight people were taken into custody for overpricing. Officials said that some vendors were not following the official price list and were charging higher rates. The administration directed vendors to clearly display price lists and sell items accordingly. Violators were warned of strict action in case of non-compliance.
Operations were also conducted in Bhara Kahu and Phulgran Sunday markets. During these inspections, a total of 12 individuals were arrested for various violations, including overpricing and unauthorized setups.
Officials said that monitoring will continue in these areas to ensure compliance with rules.
In one case, a shop was sealed for creating obstruction by setting up an encroachment that affected pedestrian movement. The administration said that public pathways must remain clear to allow smooth movement of visitors, especially during peak hours in weekly markets.
Apart from market inspections, action was also taken on Simbly Dam Road, where an illegal taxi stand was removed. Authorities shifted two vehicles to the police station as part of the operation. The administration said that illegal stands disrupt traffic flow and create inconvenience for residents.
The alleged owner of the illegal taxi stand and a clerk were also arrested during the operation. Officials stated that no unauthorized transport stands will be allowed to operate within city limits.
The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has directed all assistant commissioners and relevant staff to continue actions against overpricing and encroachments. According to the administration, regular inspections will be carried out to ensure that vendors follow the rules and citizens are not overcharged.
Officials said that the purpose of these actions is to provide relief to the public and ensure fair practices in markets. They added that strict monitoring will continue, especially on weekends when the number of buyers increases.
The district administration has also urged citizens to report cases of overpricing or encroachments to relevant authorities so that timely action can be taken.
