LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) The Government of Punjab has intensified enforcement of its zero-tolerance policy against profiteering, with large-scale operations carried out across the province to control prices of essential commodities.
According to a spokesperson of the food Safety and Consumer Protection Department, price Control Magistrates conducted 74,693 inspections, during which 4,210 cases of overcharging were detected. Fines exceeding Rs2.654 million were imposed, while 287 individuals were arrested and nine FIRs were registered against violators.
The crackdown against overpricing of roti was also stepped up, resulting in fines amounting to Rs247,500 and 50 arrests.
Similarly, strict monitoring of chicken meat prices was ensured. During 3,146 inspections, 301 cases of overcharging were identified, leading to fines of Rs71,000.
The spokesperson said prices of essential items including basmati rice, flour, pulses and sugar were being closely monitored, while measures were also underway to stabilise rates of vegetables such as tomatoes, onions and potatoes.
The spokesperson said daily inspections were continuing to provide relief to the public, warning that indiscriminate action against profiteers would persist in the coming days.
