41 highway toll plazas to be digitized by June: C&W minister

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The Communication and Works (C&W) Department is moving towards elimination of the manual toll collection system as part of a broader digitalization drive aimed at ensuring transparency, efficiency, and enhanced revenue generation.

In this regard, an important meeting on the digitalization of C&W toll plazas was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth, here on Wednesday. Secretary C&W Raja Jahangir Anwar and representatives of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) attended the meeting, where they were given a detailed briefing on operations and management matters.

It was informed during the meeting that digitalization of 41 highway toll plazas will be completed by June. The proposed system will introduce electronic toll collection, automatic vehicle identification, and E-tag based payments to streamline operations.

The meeting reviewed progress on replacing the existing manual system with a modern digital framework. It was noted that the initiative is expected to eliminate overcharging, improve transparency in toll collection, and increase overall revenue.

Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth said that digitalization will bring transparency and efficiency in the toll collection system and help end manual discrepancies. He said the Highways Department is rapidly advancing towards complete digital transformation in line with the Chief Minister Punjab’s vision of a “Digital Punjab.”

He added that the ongoing process is being accelerated to ensure modern, automated systems are implemented across all toll plazas for better public service delivery and improved financial management.
