KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, has welcomed the Sindh Cabinet's approval of a historic 15-day relaxation in the annual fishing ban, terming it a revolutionary step and a harbinger of economic prosperity for the province's coastal economy and millions of poor fishermen.
He stated that the Department of Livestock and Fisheries had forwarded a summary to the Cabinet keeping in view the hardships and demands of the fishing community, and expressed his deep gratitude to the Chief Minister of Sindh and the entire Cabinet for its approval, said a statement on Thursday.
He added that allowing fish and shrimp harvesting from June 1 to June 15, 2026, will provide direct economic relief to small-scale fishermen and ensure the protection of their livelihoods.
Muhammad Ali Malkani highlighted that this decision was made at a time when the fishing community was facing severe economic distress.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>This 15-day window will offer poor fishermen across coastal belts, including Badin, Thatta, and Karachi, an excellent opportunity to gather sufficient financial capital before the off-season closure, which will also keep fish supply and prices stable in the local market.
He further emphasized that the importance of the seasonal ban remains intact for protecting aquatic life and fish breeding; therefore, a complete ban on fishing will be re-enforced from June 15 to July 31 to prevent any harm to the marine ecosystem.
The Minister appealed to all fishermen to operate strictly within the legal framework during this relaxed period and to show full cooperation by respecting the government's decision after the deadline.
