90 percent cotton cultivation target achieved in Vehari: DC

VEHARI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Jul, 2026) A meeting of the Cotton Crop Management Committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya, in which a detailed review of cotton cultivation and production was taken in the district.

The meeting was informed that 90 percent target of cotton cultivation has been achieved in Vehari district, while the first harvesting of cotton is underway and the production is coming up to 8 to 12 maunds per acre.

It was informed in the briefing that the harvesting of seasonal cotton will start at the end of August, however, due to the increase in the cultivation of maize and other crops on the cotton area, difficulties were faced in achieving the set target.

The DC directed that a comprehensive report be prepared by comparing the factors hindering the achievement of cotton targets with the data of the last three years.

The meeting was further informed that cotton prices are determined according to the international market, availability of fertilizers is satisfactory and no major pest attack has been reported on the crop so far.

The meeting was also informed that the field staff of the Agriculture Department has launched a vigorous awareness campaign among the farmers from the union council to the village level to promote cotton cultivation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Saba Sahar, Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Rana Muhammad Arif and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
