PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Apr, 2026) Muhammad Ismail, Program Coordinator and Manager Advocacy at the non-governmental organization IRSP, on Wednesday said that access to information is essential for promoting transparency and strengthening democracy.
Addressing a panel discussion at Defence College for Girls, Baghdada, Mardan, jointly organized by IRSP and TDEA, he highlighted that under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act 2013, citizens have a constitutional and legal right to obtain information from public institutions.
The event was attended by Administrator Defence College for Girls Pir Azam, Principal Kalli Azam, Dr. Muhammad Fida (Coordinator BS), IRSP representatives Nasir Khan and Syeda Nosheen Sardar, along with a large number of female students.
Muhammad Ismail said the Right to Information law enables citizens to monitor the performance of government departments, helping curb corruption and strengthen accountability.
He stressed the need to raise awareness among the younger generation, particularly female students, about their rights so they can become responsible and informed citizens.
Other speakers also termed access to information a fundamental right, noting that it empowers citizens to ensure transparency in government policies and decisions.
They emphasized the importance of organizing awareness programs in educational institutions to sensitize youth and encourage them to effectively raise their voices for their rights.
During the session, students actively participated, asking questions about the usefulness, procedures and practical application of the law.
The speakers responded comprehensively and provided guidance on its implementation in everyday life.
At the conclusion of the event, the speakers reaffirmed their commitment to continue organizing such initiatives to promote transparency, accountability and the rule of law in society.
