ACP pays tribute to renowned historian, researcher, journalist Pir Hassam Ud Din Rashidi

Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organised a special ceremony to acknowledge the scholarly and literary contributions of renowned historian, researcher, and journalist Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi here on Thursday

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organised a special ceremony to acknowledge the scholarly and literary contributions of renowned historian, researcher, and journalist Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi here on Thursday.

The event was attended by President Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Renowned televison actress and former member of provincial assembly, Mehtab Akbar Rashidi and others including Dr Jaffar Ahmed, Madad Ali Sindhi, Paras Mahmood, and Hameed Akhund, while Dr. Ayub Sheikh performed the duties of moderator.

A large number of scholars, literary figures, and members of civil society were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah said Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi was a great researcher and intellectual. He noted that such events reflected hope and highlighted the importance of dialogue in society.

Mehtab Akbar Rashidi stated that Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi was a distinguished teacher and thinker who began his journalistic career at the age of 18. She highlighted that he authored around 50 books and translated important historical works from Persian and Arabic into Sindhi, making knowledge accessible to a wider audience.

She added that failure to conduct research on his work would be a loss for institutions and the younger generation.

Hameed Akhund remarked that without Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi, many valuable books would not have been available, which would have caused a significant knowledge gap. He expressed concern over the decline in research culture and appreciated the Arts Council for remembering great scholars.

Dr Jaffar Ahmed noted that Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi was not only a historian and researcher but also an expert in reading inscriptions.

Paras Mahmood highlighted that Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi’s complete academic collection was preserved in his library. He added that efforts were underway to research his letters and to organise workshops on his work, noting that even the British Library kept his letters and interviews.

He urged the Sindh government to establish a museum in his name. Madad Ali Sindhi called on the Sindh government to compile Pir Hassam ud din Rashidi’s writings and establish a research centre dedicated to his work, stating that his rare writings would serve as a guiding light for the new generation.
