FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Apr, 2026) Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar said that the administration has decided to implement a comprehensive “carpooling/vehicle sharing” policy across the division to ensure fuel conservation amid prevailing economic and energy challenges.
Presiding over a meeting via video link with officers from all districts of the division, he said that government officers must play a leading role in adopting carpooling practices.
If public sector employees working at the same locations follow this model, it would serve as a role model for the private sector and help achieve tangible results, he added.
He said that students residing in the same areas could also adopt carpooling as a national responsibility during difficult times, stressing the need for a behavioral shift in the society.
He directed education authorities to take effective measures for awareness among students including sensitization during morning assemblies and short lectures in classrooms.
He further instructed that parents should also be informed about the benefits of carpooling during parent-teacher meetings.
He termed such initiatives essential for fuel conservation in hospitals and government offices, noting that many countries around the world have successfully adopted vehicle-sharing policies.
Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, he urged the citizens to contribute towards national service and austerity by embracing fuel-saving practices.
He also directed the launch of an effective public awareness campaign to encourage the private sector to adopt carpooling.
He announced that another meeting would be held after one week to review progress on implementation of the initiative.
