MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Mar, 2026) The Punjab Agriculture Department on Monday issued fresh recommendations to help farmers control mango hopper,a destructive pest posing serious risks to orchards.

According to the department’s spokesperson, growers should ensure proper pruning of trees to improve sunlight exposure and air circulation, creating unfavorable conditions for the pest.

Before spraying, fallen plant material should be collected and buried to prevent breeding.

Farmers have also been advised to avoid excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers and over-irrigation, both of which can accelerate pest infestation.

Spraying should be carried out during summer afternoons, strictly following the guidance of local agricultural experts.

The advisory stresses that effective control requires thorough spraying of trees, starting from inner branches and extending to outer foliage.

Special attention must be given to trunks and thick branches as incomplete coverage may limit results.

In cases of severe attack, the department recommends repeating the spray after a five-day interval to ensure complete eradication.
