LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) The Punjab government has prepared a proposal for important amendments in the "Affordable Private Housing Schemes Rules" to promote low-cost housing projects.
The aim of which is to attract the private sector towards the construction of affordable homes and increase investment in the housing sector.
Official sources in the Housing department said that under the proposed amendments, it will be mandatory for private and cooperative housing schemes to allocate at least 20 percent of the residential area for low-cost housing. This portion will be considered an "Affordable Housing Scheme", while special incentives will be given to schemes that allocate more area.
According to the policy, it has been proposed to provide a fee concession of 20 to 80 percent to schemes that allocate more for low-cost housing.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Among these concessions the approval fee for maps, water supply, sewerage, roads and bridges will be included.
According to sources, it has also been recommended to reduce the rate of land mortgaged for the completion of development work so that the financial pressure on developers is reduced and the projects can be completed quickly.
The proposed amendments have also recommended making the process of approval of projects easier and faster.
A proposal to reduce the approval period for various stages from 90 days to 60 days is under consideration.
Officials say that the new housing policy will be made part of the upcoming budget so that the private sector can be given effective incentives to invest in low-cost housing projects.
