Afghan repatriation gains momentum via Torkham border

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jul, 2026) The voluntary repatriation of undocumented Afghans have gained pace via Torkham border.

Following the government's deadline and stricter enforcement measures, many Afghan nationals started returning to Afghanistan voluntarily through the Torkham crossing, officials in Khyber district administration told APP.

After reopening of the Torkham border crossing, vehicles belonging to Pakistani citizens that had been stranded in Afghanistan for the past nine months have also begun returning home, marking a significant step toward the restoration of cross-border movement.

The reopening of Torkham border also coincides with Pakistan's continued implementation of its policy on the repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals.

Border activity has increased considerably, with hundreds of trucks transporting goods crossing the Torkham border every day, reflecting the gradual normalization of trade and travel between the two neighboring countries.

The reopening of the crossing is expected to ease pressure on cross-border commerce, facilitate the movement of stranded citizens, and improve the flow of essential goods between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
