Agriculture and Livestock as the backbone of State economy: AJK PM

MUZAFFARABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2026) The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, while terming agriculture and livestock as the backbone of the state’s economy, has said that development of these crucial sectors remains among key priorities of his government.

He expressed these views while chairing an important meeting regarding the boosting up the agricultural and Livestock here today.

He said that the agricultural conference scheduled to be held in mid-April aims to make farmers self-reliant and to transform agriculture into a profitable sector.

He, however, stressed the need for adopting modern practices and technology to bring revolutionary changes in both sectors.

The prime minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure that arrangements for the conference are completed on time.

He said the conference would serve as an effective platform for experts, policymakers, and farmers to share expertise and formulate a roadmap to address challenges faced by farmers.

The government, he said, is utilizing all available resources to improve the agriculture and livestock sectors to ensure farmers’ prosperity and strengthen the state’s economy.

The participants of the meeting received a detailed briefing about the objectives of the conference and arrangements being made to make it a success.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Zafar Khan; Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation, and Small Dams Wajahat Rashid Baig; Director of Animal Health Dr. Zafar Iqbal; Director of Livestock Dr. M. Shabbir Sheikh; Director of Agriculture Aamir Malik; Director of Horticulture Zafar Jahangir; and others.
