AIOU holds seminar on research innovation, global opportunities for academic excellence

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jul, 2026) Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has organized a one-day awareness seminar titled "Research Innovation and Global Opportunities for Academic Excellence" to familiarize students, researchers and faculty members with international opportunities in higher education, research, scholarships and global academic collaboration.

The seminar was organized by the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) as part of the University's ongoing efforts to strengthen research culture and promote academic excellence.

The keynote speaker and resource person for the seminar was Prof. Dr Waseem Haider of Central Michigan University, USA who shared valuable insights into the rapidly evolving global higher education landscape and the opportunities available to Pakistani students aspiring to pursue advanced studies abroad.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr Waseem Haider highlighted the growing importance of research, innovation and international academic collaboration in today's knowledge-driven world.

He explained that technological advancements have significantly simplified access to leading universities worldwide, enabling students to explore admission requirements, scholarship opportunities, research programs and academic collaborations through digital platforms.

He informed the audience that Pakistani students have excellent prospects for pursuing graduate studies and research at renowned American universities.

He noted that graduates holding a four-year bachelor's degree may qualify for direct admission to PhD programs at many U.S. institutions where they can benefit from merit-based full or partial scholarships, research assistantships and teaching assistantships.

Prof. Haider further emphasized that American universities offer an outstanding research environment equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, digital libraries, advanced scientific equipment, high-speed internet and internationally recognized research facilities.

Such resources, he said provide students with an ideal platform to conduct high-quality research, develop innovative solutions and compete successfully at the global level.

The seminar also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants actively engaged with the speaker by raising questions related to admissions, scholarship opportunities, research funding, academic requirements and career prospects in international universities.

Prof. Dr Haider responded comprehensively, offering practical guidance to aspiring researchers and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hafiz Muhammad Akhtar Khan, Director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) said that the seminar was designed to equip young scholars with essential knowledge about international admissions, research funding mechanisms, scholarships and emerging global research trends.

He stressed that such initiatives are instrumental in preparing students to seize international academic and research opportunities and contribute effectively to Pakistan's knowledge economy.
