MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) Muslims across Azad Jammu and Kashmir celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with traditional religious zeal and devotion, reaffirming their commitment to the teachings and values of islam amid an atmosphere of festivity and spirituality throughout the liberated territory.
The AJK government had announced three public holidays from May 26 to 28 to mark Eid celebrations across the state. The day began with special prayers in mosques for the unity and solidarity of the Muslim Ummah, progress and prosperity of Pakistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir, and the early liberation of occupied Muslim territories, including Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Eid congregations were held in all ten districts of AJK, including Muzaffarabad, Jhelum Valley, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimber, Bagh, Sudhanoti, Rawalakot, Haveli, and Neelum Valley, where worshippers offered Eid prayers at mosques, Eidgahs, and open grounds. The largest Eid congregation in the AJK capital was reportedly held at the Central Eidgah in Muzaffarabad, attended by hundreds of faithful.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Religious scholars and khateebs from different schools of thought highlighted the significance of Eid-ul-Azha and the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). They also condemned restrictions imposed by Indian authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Eid congregations, worship at mosques and Eidgahs, and the slaughter and sale of sacrificial animals.
Later, people performed the Sunnah of sacrifice by slaughtering animals including camels, cows, sheep, and goats in remembrance of the obedience and sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS). Acting AJK President Chaudhry Lateef Akbar and AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore celebrated Eid in Muzaffarabad and Haveli respectively, where they reiterated solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and condemned ongoing human rights violations in the region. Authorities also ensured stringent security arrangements at central mosques, Eidgahs, and Imambargahs across AJK during Eid prayers.
