PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Mar, 2026) All Nazimin Neighborhood Council and Village Council Organizing Committee District Peshawar demanded that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf provincial government should restore the Local Government Act 2013 in its original form.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Amanullah Khan, head of former local government representatives’ organization, along with former Nazim Qaiser Khan Farooqi and other former Nazims, said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf provincial government played a lot with the local government system after the defeat of its local government representatives in the 2019 elections and paralysed the system by changing the local government system through the provincial cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The decision of the PTI government took away the rights of local government representatives and closed the doors of development funds to them, due to which the people could not get the fruits of the local government system up to the grassroots level, they added.
In 2021, Rs. 15 billion was allocated for the planned districts and Rs 2.4 billion for the tribal districts, out of which only Rs 2 billion was released by the provincial government.
Similarly, in 2022-2023, Rs 37 billion was allocated for the planned districts and Rs 4 billion for the tribal districts, out of which only Rs 1.
2 billion was released, they continued.
In the financial year 2023-24, Rs. 17 billion and Rs. 5.2 billion were allocated for the settled districts and Rs 5.2 billion for the tribal districts, respectively, but not a single rupee was released.
While in financial years 2024 and 2025, Rs. 24 billion were allocated for the settled districts and Rs. 6 billion for the tribal districts, but not a single rupee was released.
Amanullah Khan said that in the last year, 2025 and 2026, Rs 39 billion were allocated for the settled districts and Rs 6.6 billion for the tribal districts, but not a single rupee was released.
He said that if we look at it, a total of Rs 156.4 billion was allocated in these four years, but only Rs. 3.6 billion was released, and the provincial government kept the rest of the money due to which the local government representatives were deprived of even small tasks, and they only protested throughout their tenure.
He said it is surprising that for the last two years, public representatives have been deprived of honorarium and every limit has been crossed to suppress their rights.
Al-Nazmeen Organizing Committee of Peshawar District demanded of the provincial government to restore the full Four Local Government Act 2013.
