All Segments 's cooperation essential for maintaining peace during Muharram: DSP

ATTOCK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) Deputy Superintendent , Police (DSP) Special Branch, Sajjad Ahmed on Thursday said that close coordination among law enforcement agencies, police, organizers of processions and Majalis, and religious scholars was imperative to maintain peace and harmony during holy month of Muharram.

He said that Ulema and Mashaikh should promote the message of peace, tolerance, and brotherhood through mosques and religious platforms, as religious scholars constitute an influential segment of society and play a vital role in fostering harmony.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of office-bearers of Imambargahs, founders of processions, and organizers of Majalis at his office .

General Secretary Imambargah Panjtani, Attock City, Syed Athar Zaidi, founder of the 7th Muharram procession Syed Zafar Zaidi, license holder of the 8th Muharram procession Imad Kazmi, President, Imambargah Sanjwal Syed Asif Raza, Muhammad Nawaz and organizers of Imambargah Akhori, organizer of the 4th and 8th Muharram processions Syed Riaz Hussain Shah, representatives of Imambargah Hussainia Sheenbagh, and other responsible persons from various Imambargahs were present in the meeting.

The officials of the Special Branch also attended the meeting.

DSP Sajjad Ahmed urged the organizers to discharge their responsibilities effectively, ensure that processions conclude within the prescribed schedule, and strictly implement the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the district administration and police.

He said volunteers would maintain strict vigilance at entry and exit points and conduct manual checking of participants, describing the measure as an effective step for ensuring security.

The DSP further said that special monitoring of social and print media would also be carried out to prevent the publication or circulation of any material that could hurt the sentiments of any school of thought.

Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary Imambargah Panjtani Attock City, Syed Athar Zaidi highlighted the issues faced by the organizers.

He demanded that SOPs relating to Muharram-ul-Haram be shared with organizers well in advance to facilitate their effective implementation. He also said that a delay of 15 to 20 minutes in processions should not be considered an extraordinary matter, as managing large gatherings of mourners in a disciplined manner, particularly during hot weather, was a challenging responsibility.

DSP Sajjad Ahmed assured the participants that their suggestions, opinions would be conveyed to the higher authorities.

He reiterated that maintaining peace and law and order remained the foremost priority and stressed that cooperation among all schools of thought, organizers, and relevant institutions was indispensable for achieving this objective.
