AMC principal urges surgeons’ body to uphold merit, transparency

Prof. Farooq Afzal reiterates that making decisions without external pressure and maintaining professional honesty is the only way to build institutional credibility

LAHORE(UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 21st, 2026) Amir-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal has urged the newly elected leadership of the Society of Surgeons (SoS) to prioritize merit, transparency and professional integrity to elevate the standards of the surgical profession in Pakistan. During a high-level meeting with the newly elected SoS officials at his office, Prof. Farooq Afzal congratulated the "Reforms Panel" on their success and expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Prof. Farooq Ahmed Rana and General Secretary Dr. Ahmed Naeem Akhtar, the society would become a beacon of service for both health professionals and suffering humanity.

Prof. Farooq Afzal reiterated that making decisions without external pressure and maintaining professional honesty is the only way to build institutional credibility. He stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy to address the professional challenges faced by young surgeons, noting that the SoS platform must play a pivotal role in their clinical training.

Prof. Farooq Afzal reaffirming his commitment to fostering a culture of research and modern training programs said that we will provide all possible support to ensure our surgical standards meet global benchmarks.

The delegation, which included Vice President Dr. Awais Amjad Malik, Joint Secretary Dr. Amir Jamil, Finance Secretary Dr. Hafiz Mahmood and Publication Secretary Dr. Zubair Ahmed Khan, assured the Principal of their full commitment. Prof. Farooq Ahmed Rana stated that the society would act as a catalyst for revolutionary changes in surgical training and welfare ensuring that the trust reposed in the Reforms Panel is honored through practical results.

The meeting concluded with a mutual resolve to enhance collaboration between AMC/PGMI and the SoS to push the boundaries of surgical excellence in the country.
