SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jul, 2026) In a significant development for medical tourism in Pakistan, an American patient traveled to Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) for a successful liver transplant surgery, citing affordability and immediate care as key reasons.

Ms. Julie Memon, a resident of the United States, got herself registered online at GIMS and was given an immediate surgery date. She underwent the procedure under the supervision of the hospital’s transplant team, led by Director GIMS Captain (Rtd) Dr. Raheem Bux Bhatti.

Speaking after her recovery here on Monday, Ms. Memon said that getting similar treatment in America would have taken months and cost hundreds of thousands of Dollars. “Here at GIMS, I received the best and most affordable facilities. This hospital is a prime example of people who are willing to take care of and help others,” she said.

She expressed surprise at seeing children also receiving liver treatment at the facility and praised the hospital for its affordable diagnostics, dedicated doctors, and patient-centred care.

Director GIMS, Captain (Rtd) Dr. Raheem Bux Bhatti, said the institute’s vision is to provide free, high-quality healthcare with compassion and dignity, not only to the people of Sindh but to patients from across the world.

GIMS was established to serve the poor and to set a benchmark for public sector healthcare in Pakistan. Cases like Ms. Memon’s show that we are moving toward becoming a center of excellence recognized globally,” he added.

Hospital officials said that GIMS continues to perform liver transplants and other specialized surgeries free of cost, making it one of the few public sector institutions in the country offering such services without financial burden on patients.

The successful treatment of an international patient is being seen as a milestone for GIMS and for Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
