Another cop martyred in Gujrat

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Another brave cop of Punjab Police embraced martyrdom while protecting the lives and property of citizens during an armed encounter in Gujrat, marking the second police martyrdom in the province within 24 hours.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem paid rich tribute to the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of Constable Umar Aftab. He directed that full care and welfare of the martyr’s family be ensured as a top priority. The IGP further ordered that all available resources be deployed to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

According to details, two motorcycle-riding robbers had snatched cash and jewelry from a family before fleeing the scene. Police pursued the suspects, who opened fire on police. During the exchange of fire, Constable Umar Aftab was struck by a bullet in the head and attained martyrdom on the spot, while one robber was accidentally killed by fire from his accomplice and the other remains at large.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search operation to arrest the absconding robber.
