APHC-HR analyst calls Asiya Andrabi imprisonment unlawful crackdown, demands immediate international response

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Mar, 2026) Senior Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Mateen and international human rights observer Khalid Aftab Sulehri on Saturday strongly condemned the life-imprisonment sentence handed to prominent Kashmiri leader Asiya Andrabi, describing it as “judicial terrorism” based on a fabricated case, an unlawful act aimed at crushing dissent and urged the world to take notice and act.

While speaking with ptv news Channel, Senior Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Mateen termed the life sentence of Kashmir’s “Iron Lady” Asiya Andrabi as a result of a fabricated case, imposed through court decisions that lack proof and transparency.

He described the verdict as “judicial terrorism,” calling it a deliberate attack on Kashmiri leadership and a grave violation of basic human rights.

Sheikh Abdul Mateen condemned the unlawful actions of the authorities, warning that such measures aim to crush the political movement in Kashmir and silence voices demanding justice and freedom.

International human rights observer Khalid Aftab Sulehri also condemned the life sentence of Asiya Andrabi, calling it a blatant violation of Geneva human rights rules and urging the world to take immediate notice.

He paid tribute to Asiya Andrabi’ s courage, highlighting her fearless struggle alongside men, raising her voice for freedom, and standing firm in the fight for Kashmiri self-determination.

Sulehri emphasized that targeting leaders like Asiya Andrabi is part of a larger campaign to suppress dissent and he called on the international community to act decisively against such repression.
