LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Apr, 2026) Unhealthy air quality conditions were recorded in the city on Saturday, raising concerns among residents and health experts. According to available data, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 143, placing it in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category.
Environmental specialists warned that such levels of pollution can adversely affect children, elderly individuals, and those suffering from respiratory or heart-related illnesses. People belonging to these groups may experience breathing difficulties, throat irritation, and other health complications even with short-term exposure.
Meanwhile, the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was recorded at 10.5 times higher than the annual guideline value set by the World Health Organization. These tiny particles are particularly dangerous as they can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, increasing the risk of serious health problems.
Experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures, including limiting outdoor activities, especially during peak pollution hours, and using protective masks when going out. They also emphasized the need for authorities to implement effective pollution control measures to improve air quality.
