Islamabad, April 9, 2026 — The Government of Pakistan has temporarily requisitioned the prestigious Serena Hotel in Islamabad ahead of high‑level peace talks between the United States and Iran, prompting the hotel to ask all guests to check out by late afternoon today.
In a formal notice to guests, Serena management said that the government has taken over the hotel “for an important event” effective from this evening until Sunday evening, leaving guests with a deadline to vacate by 5 pm. Staff have been assisting guests in securing alternative accommodations in the city.

The move comes amid preparations for US–Iran negotiations in Islamabad, expected to begin later this week. Islamabad has been at the centre of recent diplomatic efforts following a two‑week ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran that paused hostilities in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
According to Pakistani and international officials, senior delegations from both countries are due in the capital for face‑to‑face talks aimed at solidifying the ceasefire and exploring a broader diplomatic settlement. A U.S. delegation led by Vice President JD Vance, along with special envoys, is expected to arrive for negotiations scheduled for Saturday, with Islamabad widely reported as the venue.
Islamabad authorities have also declared local holidays and tightened security across the capital in anticipation of the talks, signalling the event’s importance and sensitivity.
While official details of the agenda remain limited, both sides have expressed caution and high stakes ahead of the discussions, which mark a rare diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran amid fluctuating tensions in the region.
