KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) Karachi Police claimed to have uncovered links between terrorism and street crime following the arrest of a suspected militant during a police encounter in Bilal Colony.
According to SSP Central on Thursday, the suspect, identified as Nauman Burmi, was arrested in an injured condition after an alleged exchange of fire with police and made several disclosures during interrogation.
Police alleged that wanted militant Qari Jameel, whose name appears in the Red Book of wanted suspects, had been operating a criminal gang involved in motorcycle snatching, house robberies and bank heists in different parts of the city.
Investigators further claimed that Nauman Burmi had received militant training in 2013 and had allegedly been involved in sectarian terrorism-related activities. Police said he had also undergone specialised training in Miranshah in the preparation of suicide jackets, improvised explosive devices and motorcycle bombs. He had reportedly been wanted by law-enforcement agencies since 2012.
According to police, the arrested suspects confessed to involvement in several motorcycle-snatching incidents and more than five robberies at houses and bungalows in District Central.

Police said they had obtained CCTV footage purportedly showing members of the gang robbing citizens at gunpoint.
The investigation also revealed that an alleged key member of the group, Qari Bilal, was killed some time ago in Gulistan-e-Jauhar when a citizen opened fire in self-defence during a robbery attempt, police claimed.
Police further stated that Nauman Burmi confessed to opening fire on a citizen during a robbery on Shahrah-e-Faisal. According to investigators, two of his accomplices were killed when the victim returned fire.
The SSP said police had begun verifying the suspect's alleged involvement in terrorism, robbery and other serious offenses. Efforts were also under way to trace other members of the gang and their alleged facilitators, while the scope of the investigation had been expanded.
