Ashura observed in KP amid tight security

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Youm-e-Ashura, 10th of Muharram was observed in provincial capital and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa peacefully amid extraordinary tight security.

The provincial metropolis was sealed completely as part of enhanced security measures and all ingress and egress points of the city was kept under strict surveillance and monitoring.

More than 50,000 personnel were deployed for security in the province while 12,000 policemen were assigned security duties in provincial capital. District administrations have declared section 144 to beef up security while pillion riding, wall chalking, illegal use of loudspeakers and entry of Afghans were banned.

Security cameras and monitoring equipment were installed on procession routes and imambargahs and walkthrough gates were installed for security of mourners.

Bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were also stationed at sensitive areas while all the markets of the city were closed. BRT service was also closed and mobile service was partially suspended to ensure peace and avoid any untoward incident.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi also visited route of main procession and expressed satisfaction over the security measures.

Capital City Police Officer, Dr. Mian Saeed also visited Central Command Post, imambargahs and various areas of the city to review security measures.
