Ashura observed in Quetta with reverence & tight security

QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Like across the country, the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), was commemorated in Quetta with deep devotion and respect.

The central mourning procession, featuring Zuljanah, Tazia, and Alam, was taken out from Imambargah Nichari on Alamdar Road.

Following its traditional route through Alamdar Road, Qaidabad Street, Toghi Road, Mission Road, Bacha Khan Chowk, Liaquat Bazaar, Prince Road, Mecongi Road, and Ibrahim Street, the procession culminated back at Alamdar Road.

On the occasion, 17,000 personnel from the police, Frontier Corps, and Balochistan Constabulary were deployed in Quetta to ensure security. The procession was monitored through CCTV cameras, while mobile phone and internet services remained suspended from morning until night across Quetta and other districts of the province.

Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Corps Commander Lieutenant General Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan visited the Central Police Office Quetta, where they reviewed live surveillance feeds from the Data Command and Communication Center covering processions, majalis, and security arrangements across the province.

At Bacha Khan Chowk, mourners offered Namaz-e-Zuhrain. Later, the President of the Balochistan Shia Conference, Ashiq Hussain Hazara, along with scholars and zakireen, addressed the mourners. They highlighted the life and sacrifices of Imam Hasan (RA) and Imam Hussain (RA), stressing that the purpose of commemorating Ashura is to uphold the philosophy of Hussainiyat. Speakers said the tragedy of Karbala serves as a guiding light for all Muslims, teaching resistance against tyranny and oppression.

They further emphasized that to overcome internal and external threats, including extremism and militancy, the nation must set aside differences and foster unity.

Following the conclusion of the procession, Sham-e-Ghareeban gatherings would be held at various imambargahs.

Security remained stringent throughout the day. Routes of the procession were sealed with barbed wire and trucks, restricting all unrelated movement. Shops and plazas along the routes were screened and sealed in advance to ensure safety.
