MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Youm-e-Ashura was observed peacefully across Multan division as all mourning processions and religious gatherings concluded under an extensive security and administrative plan implemented by
the Punjab government.
According to Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Kareem Khan, a total of 224 Majalis and 283 mourning processions were held across the division. These included 35 Category-A, 85 Category-B and 104 Category-C religious gatherings, while 46 Category-A, 113 Category-B and 124 Category-C processions were conducted peacefully and concluded according to schedule.
For the first time, all mourning processions and Majalis were integrated with the Safe City surveillance system. More than 400 Safe City cameras, along with 208 CCTV cameras installed at key locations across the city, provided round-the-clock monitoring, enabling authorities to maintain effective oversight throughout the observance.
The Central Control Room established at the Deputy Commissioner's Office remained operational around- the-
clock, with representatives of all relevant departments working in close coordination to ensure prompt response and uninterrupted monitoring.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>During Ashura, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Pakistan Army visited the District Control Room to review security arrangements and assess the monitoring and emergency response mechanisms. Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan and RPO Usman Gondal briefed the GOC on the division's security strategy, while CPO Sadiq Dogar, Deputy Commissioner Noman Siddique and other senior officials were also present.
Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan said the successful and peaceful observance of Youm-e-Ashura reflected the Punjab government's zero-tolerance policy on maintaining law and order, as well as the strong coordination among the civil administration, police, security agencies and emergency services. He also acknowledged the active support of Peace Committee members, religious scholars and community leaders, whose cooperation significantly contributed to preserving inter-sect harmony.
The Commissioner congratulated the district administration, police and all participating departments for their professionalism and dedication, stating that their coordinated efforts ensured the peaceful conclusion of all Ashura-related activities across Multan Division.
