Ashura observed with reverence in Astore

ASTORE Jun 26 (APP) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 26th Jun, 2026) Like the rest of the country, Youm-e-Ashura was observed in District Astore with great devotion and reverence. The largest mourning procession began at 9:30 a.m. from Imambargah Anjuman-e-Imamia. Several smaller and larger mourning groups from different parts of the district joined the main procession along the way.

The procession passed through its designated routes and reached the Eidgah Polo Ground. At 12:45 p.m., Maulana Syed Ashiq Hussain led the Zuhr and Asr prayers at Ali Murtaza Chowk.

Addressing the participants, Maulana Syed Ashiq Hussain said that the martyrdom of the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), remains an eternal symbol of the struggle between truth and falsehood. He stated that the teachings of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and Ahl al-Bayt promote peace, unity, and awareness against oppression. He said that Imam Hussain (RA) sacrificed his life for the supremacy of islam and nourished the garden of Islam with his sacred blood.

He further said that whenever the name of Karbala is mentioned, it reminds believers of the courage, bravery, loyalty, and unparalleled sacrifices of Imam Hussain’s devoted companions. Their sacrifices will continue to be remembered forever.

Maulana Ashiq Hussain added that Muharram is the month of sacrifices, and on the 10th of Muharram, Imam Hussain (RA) completed the ultimate act of devotion in the plains of Karbala.

By sacrificing his 72 loyal companions, he demonstrated that everything can be sacrificed for Islam, but Islam cannot be sacrificed for anything.

He emphasized that Imam Hussain (RA) refused to accept the tyrannical rule of Yazid and taught humanity that one may sacrifice even one's entire family for truth and justice but should never bow before oppression and tyranny. He said that by standing against the greatest power of his time and embracing martyrdom in the scorching desert of Karbala, Imam Hussain (RA) ensured the eternal honor of Islam and set a timeless example of courage and steadfastness.

Other speakers also addressed the participants during the procession.

The district administration made foolproof security arrangements for the occasion. Strict checking was carried out at all entry and exit points of District Astore. Besides the police, personnel of the FC and Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts remained on high alert throughout the procession.

Among those accompanying the procession were PML-N Vice President and former Chairman District Council Astore Habibullah, Member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Rana Farman Ali, Member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Rana Farooq, Deputy Commissioner Astore Neelum Ali, and SP Astore Barkatullah.

The mourning procession concluded peacefully, and no untoward incident was reported throughout the observance of Youm-e-Ashura.
