DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, was observed with due solemnity across Dera Ismail Khan (DIKhan) on Friday as mourning processions concluded peacefully under extraordinary security arrangements made by the district administration and law enforcement agencies.
The mourners participated in the Ashura processions to pay tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and other martyrs of Karbala. The district police, backed by the civil administration and other security agencies, implemented a comprehensive security plan to ensure the peaceful observance of the occasion.
The largest Tazia procession emerged from Imambargah Bammu Shah, while around 15 other Tazia, Alam-o-Zuljinnah processions were taken out from various Imambargahs and Thallas across the city. Another major Zuljinah procession started from Imambargah 'Chah Syed Munawar' and concluded at Kotli Imam Hussain after passing through its traditional route, including Multan Road, Commissionary Bazaar and Chogalla. The third main procession originated from Imambargahs Latu Faqir and Haider Shah Sherazi. All major processions culminated peacefully at Kotli Imam Hussain, where they later dispersed.
The mourners of all age groups participated in Noha Khwani, while Sabeels offering drinking water and soft drinks were set up along the procession routes. Ashura processions were also held peacefully in the tehsils of Kulachi, Paharpur and Paroa.
Traffic remained suspended on procession routes, while a ban on pillion riding and motorcycle movement remained in force during the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

According to the police spokesman, the district had been divided into different zones and sectors with deployment of personnel at various places under a security plan to maintain peace during Muharram-ul-haram in the district.
A modern Command and Control Centre was established at Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines to monitor procession routes, Imambargahs and other sensitive locations through more than 200 CCTV cameras. The district had been divided into five security sectors, while Kulachi and Tank had been designated as separate sectors.
More than 8,000 police and security personnel were deployed across the district. Besides, drones, quadcopters and other modern surveillance technologies were being used to monitor the situation and respond to any potential security threats.
The checkposts were established at all entry and exit points of the city, several streets were sealed, and the Bomb
Disposal Squad carried out thorough sweeps before and after the processions.
Senior officials of the police and district administration remained present in the field throughout the day, visiting various procession routes to monitor the security arrangements and ensure the peaceful conclusion of all Ashura activities.
