Attempt to smuggle Rs 29.69 billion worth of Iranian currency foiled

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Karachi Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle Iranian Currency worth approximately 29.69 billion rials, arresting nine members of an inter-provincial network during a targeted operation.

According to officials on Tuesday, the Mochko Police carried out an action on a tip-off, intercepting two vehicles arriving from Balochistan. The suspects, comprising six men and three women, were taken into custody during the raid.

Police said the accused were travelling in two cars bearing registration numbers AZC-922 and AYC-169 when they were apprehended. A total of 236 bundles of Iranian currency were recovered from their possession at the time of arrest.

The seized amount was stated to be 29.

69 billion Iranian rials, believed to be part of a larger smuggling operation spanning multiple provinces.

The arrested individuals were identified as Muhammad Asghar, Abdul Ghaffar, Bibi Sara, Gul Seema, Bibi Afsana, Taj Muhammad, Muhammad Naseem, Naimatullah and Anar Gul.

Officials said the suspects, along with the vehicles and recovered currency, would be handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after completion of legal formalities for further investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Keamari commended the Station House Officer (SHO) Mochko and the raiding team for the successful operation, announcing commendation certificates (CC-III) in recognition of their performance.
