ATTOCK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2026) A progressive farmer from Attock has earned provincial recognition after securing second position in a Punjab-wide wheat production competition, highlighting the district’s growing contribution to agricultural development. Malik Muhammad Shafiq Ahmed of village Golra, Tehsil Attock, achieved a wheat yield of 69.97 maunds per acre and was awarded a 75-horsepower tractor by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The achievement was celebrated at a ceremony held in Golra on Saturday, where Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Dr. Tariq Mukhtar, said that the Punjab government’s focus on agriculture was helping farmers improve productivity and strengthen their economic position. The event was also attended by Divisional Director Agriculture Rawalpindi Syed Shahid Iftikhar Bukhari, Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Attock Dr. Muhammad Javed and other officials.
During the ceremony, prizes were distributed among top-performing farmers. At the district level, Asghar Khan of Qutb Bandi, Hazro, secured first position with a yield of 59.

Bilal Hayat of Jalalia, Hazro, secured second position with 58.87 maunds per acre and was awarded Rs800,000, while Syed Zaigham Abbas of Chontra, Jand, claimed third position with 50.67 maunds per acre and received Rs500,000.
Speakers said the government's provision of tractors and modern agricultural machinery on subsidized rates was encouraging the adoption of advanced farming practices and increasing per-acre productivity. They noted that wheat cultivation in Rawalpindi Division expanded to 1.543 million acres this year, an increase of 36,000 acres over the previous season, while average wheat yield also improved by four maunds per acre. They added that Punjab achieved its wheat production target of 22 million metric tons, generating significant economic activity and providing substantial benefits to the farming community. The ceremony concluded with a warm welcome for guests by local farmers and progressive landowners, who expressed appreciation for initiatives aimed at strengthening the agriculture sector.
