Average AQI recorded at 65 in Lahore

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Apr, 2026) The Lahore city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) at 65, placing it in the 'moderate' category, where air quality is generally acceptable but may pose a slight risk for unusually sensitive individuals. Despite remaining within this range, pollution levels continue to exceed recommended safety thresholds.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5), one of the most harmful air pollutants due to its ability to penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream, was measured at 3.2 times higher than the annual guideline value set by the World Health Organization.

Such elevated concentrations can contribute to respiratory and cardiovascular problems, particularly among children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Experts advise that while conditions are not immediately hazardous for the general population, prolonged exposure to these pollution levels can still have adverse health effects. Citizens, especially vulnerable groups, are encouraged to limit outdoor activities during peak pollution hours and adopt preventive measures such as wearing masks and using air purifiers indoors.
