LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) The Lahore city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 79, placing it in the “moderate” category, which indicates that air quality is acceptable for most people but may pose a slight health risk for sensitive groups.

Despite remaining within this range, the situation remains a cause for concern due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter.

The concentration of PM2.5—tiny airborne particles capable of penetrating deep into the lungs and bloodstream—was measured at 3.8 times higher than the annual guideline value set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Such elevated levels significantly increase the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular issues, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

Experts advise that while the general public may not experience immediate effects at this AQI level, prolonged exposure to high PM2.5 concentrations can have serious long-term health implications. Citizens, especially those in vulnerable groups, are encouraged to limit outdoor activities, use protective masks when necessary, and take precautionary measures to reduce exposure.
