Awareness seminar on Pro-Women laws held

SIALKOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Mar, 2026) Baidarie on Monday organized an Awareness Raising Seminar on Pro-Women Laws and Policies at the Baidarie Office, Model Town Ugoki,Sialkot under the project “Catalyzing Growth for Women Economic Empowerment in District Sialkot (Punjab) Pakistan,” supported by UN Women.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness about women’s rights,legal protections and support mechanisms available for women and other vulnerable groups in society.

The session was addressed by Executive Director (ED) Baidarie Arshid Mehmood Mirza, Project Manager Baidarie Asif Raza,Advocate Sajid Khan,Social Organizer Iqra Razzaq, Social Organizer Zumera and Humary Awaz Team Leader Alisha Ashiq.

The speakers highlighted various laws,policies and institutional mechanisms that safeguard the rights of women and marginalized communities.

During the seminar,the following key topics including fundamental Human Rights guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, economic and social rights of women, girls, minorities, persons with disabilities and transgender persons, rights of informal workers, including Women Home-Based Workers (WHBWs), Punjab Home-Based Workers Act 2023 and its significance for protecting home-based workers, need, importance, and benefits of women’s socioeconomic empowerment and their participation in mainstream economic activities, women protection laws in Punjab, grievance addressing mechanisms for protecting the rights of women and other vulnerable groups, referral mechanisms available in District Sialkot for women, girls, and vulnerable communities in cases of gender-based discrimination, harassment, violence, and violations of economic and social rights were discussed.

The seminar was attended by youths,disable people,students,key influential persons from the community, social and political activists and media representatives.

The session provided an important platform for dialogue and awareness, encouraging participants to better understand their rights and the available support systems to ensure protection, equality and empowerment within society.
