SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2026) An awareness session on the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010 was held at the regional head office of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) here.

The session was chaired by Muhammad Iqbal Arain, consultant, former District and Sessions Judge, and Provincial Ombudsman (Mohtasib) Sukkur.

A large number of senior officers from NADRA, including representatives from the headquarters, attended the session on Monday. Detailed information was provided regarding the law aimed at protecting women from harassment at the workplace.

Addressing the participants, Muhammad Iqbal Arain stated that the Primary objective of the law is to ensure a safe working environment for women. He emphasized that any affected woman can file a complaint free of cost. He described harassment as a serious social evil and a punishable offense, adding that concrete legal measures are being taken to eliminate it.

He explained that the law was passed by the Senate of Pakistan, and under its provisions, regular hearings of such complaints are conducted at the Sukkur office.

The office of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh is actively playing its role in this regard.

He clarified that once a complaint is filed, the accused is bound to respond within the stipulated time. Subsequently, an inquiry committee conducts hearings and submits its recommendations to the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh.

A question and answer session was also held, during which NADRA officers raised various questions and expressed their concerns. Muhammad Iqbal Arain stated that strict penalties are imposed if harassment is proven, including withholding increments, suspension of salary, or dismissal from service.

During the seminar, NADRA Director General Aalia Abdul Razzaq instructed officers to disseminate awareness of the law among their subordinate staff and ensure support for affected women. She stressed that the law should not be misused and that only genuine cases should be pursued.

At the conclusion of the session, NADRA officers assured full implementation of the law.
