MIRPUR (AJK), (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President, Sardar Masood Khan has said Pakistan’s response to Indian aggression last year marked a significant moment in its history, strengthening its image as a “resilient and responsible” regional power.
According to a statement issued here on Wednesday , Khan, a former Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, China and the United Nations — made the remarks while addressing a gathering at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in federal capital.
He said that the country's armed forces had delivered a “precise, proportionate and decisive” response, adding that the episode served as a test of the country’s deterrence capability which was validated.
Referring to events of May 6 last year, Khan described Pakistan’s response as a moment of national pride, adding it had safeguarded sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.
The president said the military’s coordinated response demonstrated operational effectiveness and technological capability.
He also said Pakistan had performed well in the information and diplomatic spheres during the conflict, asserting that it maintained credibility internationally by relying on verified facts while countering misinformation.
Khan further said Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement during and after the crisis helped improve ties with major powers, including the United States, and strengthened cooperation with regional partners such as Saudi Arabia.
He added that Pakistan had also played a facilitating role in sensitive diplomatic engagements between global actors, which he said had enhanced its international standing.
Turning to domestic issues, he said young people made up around two-thirds of Pakistan’s population and were central to the country’s future development.
Khan urged them to prepare for leadership roles, adding Pakistan aimed to become one of the world’s leading economies by 2047.
He stressed the need for continued vigilance amid regional challenges, while calling for greater focus on economic stability, technological development and foreign investment.
The AJK president said Pakistan should build on its strategic position to strengthen its economy and contribute to regional stability.
