MIRPUR (AJK), (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has lauded Azerbaijan for consistently supporting Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir dispute, describing the issue as an unfinished agenda of the partition of the subcontinent, the official sources said on Thursday.

Speaking in an interview with Azerbaijan Republic Broadcasting TV, the AJK PM said Pakistan and its people had always supported Kashmiris and played a key role in assisting the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that Pakistan continued to provide political, diplomatic and humanitarian support to Kashmiris living across the Line of Control.

Rathore said that the people in Illegal Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) had resisted Indian rule for nearly eight decades.

Referring to policies of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said that India had intensified measures aimed at eroding the distinct identity of Kashmiris.

He said the international community could no longer ignore violations of political and human rights in IIOJK, and urged global powers to hold India accountable for human rights violations against Kashmiris.

The AJK prime minister said residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir wanted people across the Line of Control to enjoy peace, freedom and security.

He also praised Pakistan’s armed forces for defending the territory against external threats.

Warning about the implications of the unresolved Kashmir dispute, Rathore said failure to settle the issue could endanger regional peace and stability.

Highlighting ties between Islamabad and Baku, he said Azerbaijan, along with China and Turkey, remained among Pakistan’s closest allies and strong supporters of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

Rathore also paid tribute to former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, calling her a global symbol of democracy.

He said she valued Azerbaijan’s democratic progress after independence from the Soviet Union and maintained cordial relations with former Azerbaijani leader Heydar Aliyev based on shared democratic ideals and economic cooperation.

He further commended Azerbaijan’s development and resilience in the post-independence period despite the challenges faced by the country.
