Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has achieved a historic milestone in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, becoming the fastest player in the world to reach 12,000 runs in T20 cricket.
The record-breaking moment came during Peshawar Zalmi’s clash against Karachi Kings, where Babar reached the landmark in just 338 innings, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who achieved the feat in 345 innings.
Indian batting star Virat Kohli had previously reached the milestone in 360 innings, while Australia’s David Warner completed it in 368 innings, highlighting the scale of Babar’s achievement in comparison to modern T20 greats.
Babar’s milestone innings was a commanding 87 off 51 balls, anchoring a dominant batting display from Zalmi. He was well supported by Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis, who smashed a brilliant century, as the duo registered the highest partnership in PSL history.
Peshawar Zalmi posted a massive total of 246 runs, putting the game beyond reach. In response, Karachi Kings collapsed for just 87 runs, with Azam Khan top-scoring with 25 runs in a disappointing chase.
With this achievement, Babar Azam becomes the 12th batter globally and only the second Pakistani after former all-rounder Shoaib Malik to cross 12,000 T20 runs, further cementing his status among the elite in modern T20 cricket.
