KATHMANDU: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 28th, 2026) Nepal has elected 35-year-old Balendra Shah, a former rapper-turned-politician, as the country’s new prime minister following a political crisis triggered by widespread public protests against corruption.

A foreign news agency, Shah secured a decisive mandate in the aftermath of the unrest, defeating former prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

His party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, reportedly achieved a strong majority in parliament, paving the way for his appointment to the top office. With this development, Shah has joined the list of the world’s youngest serving prime ministers.

Before entering national politics, Shah served as the mayor of Kathmandu. He gained popularity among young people through his presence on social media and his rap music, and is widely known for his firm stance against corruption.
