Convened under the chairmanship of Speaker Captain (Retd.) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, the Balochistan Assembly, heard MPA Agha Umar Ahmedzai raise the issue of the alleged custodial killing of Israr Umrani.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti informed the House that an inquiry had already been ordered and assured that those found guilty would face indiscriminate action.
Responding to a query from the Opposition Leader regarding the Khuzdar Marble City project, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti explained that the scheme would be executed in two phases — first through infrastructure development, followed by activation in collaboration with the private sector.
He admitted flaws in planning, noting that schemes are often initiated before feasibility studies. The matter has been referred to the Public Accounts Committee for inquiry, and the Speaker ruled that an inspection committee would be formed to report on ground realities.
On the Enterprise Development Program under the Industries and Commerce Department, CM Sarfraz Bugti said the initiative was designed to reduce informal trade at borders and provide youth with employment opportunities.
The Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP) was included to train and monitor young entrepreneurs for five years. He clarified that this was a one-time project targeting districts affected by law and order issues and smuggling.
Provincial Finance and Minerals Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani presented two draft bills: the Balochistan Mines and Safety Bill 2026 and the Balochistan Witness Protection Amendment Bill 2026, both of which were referred to relevant committees.
On a point of order, MPA Mir Asadullah Baloch questioned the status of a committee formed earlier to review errors in draft legislation. He also highlighted the severe losses suffered by farmers due to recent rains and urged immediate government relief.
MPA Engineer Zamrak Khan Achakzai echoed the call, suggesting a provincial-level committee to minimize future damages. He also pointed out the selection process in cricket in Balochistan. He noted that no local players were included in the Quetta Gladiators squad.
The Speaker also welcomed Senator Dinesh Kumar to the House.
The Assembly session was adjourned until April 10 at 3:00 p.m.
