In connection with World Environment Day 2026, the Center of Excellence, Government of Balochistan, organized a high-level roundtable conference at the NUST Balochistan Campus on the theme “Countering Environmental Extremism through Community Strengthening”
QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) In connection with World Environment Day 2026, the Center of Excellence, Government of Balochistan, organized a high-level roundtable conference at the NUST Balochistan Campus on the theme “Countering Environmental Extremism through Community Strengthening.” The event brought together environmental experts, academics, government officials, security specialists, researchers, and civil society members.
The conference aimed to deliberate on strategies for addressing climate change, environmental degradation, and mounting pressure on natural resources by enhancing local community capacity, fostering inter-institutional cooperation, and developing sustainable policies.
Speaking at the event, Chief Coordination Officer Dr. Dost Muhammad Barech highlighted that environmental challenges and climate change impacts have become a global crisis, requiring joint action by government institutions, academic centers, research bodies, civil society, and local communities. He stressed that public awareness and active community participation are vital for achieving environmental protection and sustainable development goals.
Deputy Coordination Officer Dr. Ismatullah Khan outlined the objectives of the conference, emphasizing the urgent need to build resilient and empowered communities at the local level to effectively tackle climate-related challenges.

In various sessions, speakers including Dr. Fahmida, SP Muhammad Sharif, Dr. Rabia Zafar, Lareeb Ihtisham, and Dr. Hafiz Qasim Ali (NUST Balochistan Campus) shared their insights. They underscored the importance of sustainable use of natural resources, reducing climate impacts, and enhancing community resilience through integrated policymaking and collective action.
Participants agreed that government measures alone are insufficient, stressing the need to raise public awareness, educate youth about environmental responsibilities, and involve local communities in decision-making to ensure a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting eco-friendly policies, strengthening awareness campaigns, encouraging research and innovation, and enhancing cooperation to combat climate change. They also pledged to spread the message of World Environment Day and work towards building a greener, safer, and sustainable future for coming generations.
