QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan has described gender-based violence as a grave social issue requiring a coordinated strategy, institutional cooperation, and public awareness.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the Multi-Sectoral Coordination Mechanism (MSCM) in Quetta, he announced the formal initiation of this province-wide framework aimed at strengthening collaboration among institutions and ensuring dignity, protection, and justice for survivors.

The chief secretary emphasized that the provincial government is committed to safeguarding women, children, and vulnerable groups, noting that ending violence against them is a top priority.

He explained that the MSCM will bring together departments, law enforcement agencies, the health sector, social welfare institutions, police, local governments, and civil society to deliver a unified response. The mechanism will organize treatment, protection, legal aid, psychological support, and social rehabilitation in a faster and more effective manner.

Highlighting the broader vision of the provincial government, Shakeel Qadir Khan said that Balochistan has enrolled 700,000 children in schools over the past two years, including a significant number of girls, while 4,000 inactive schools have been reactivated. He stressed that education is essential for women to claim their rights and participate fully in society.

He also pointed to achievements in the health sector, noting that last year the government successfully introduced telemedicine services in 32 basic health units, with women playing a major role in service delivery. In the current fiscal year, telemedicine facilities will be expanded to more than 600 basic health centers across the province.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, development partners, and representatives of international organizations, who welcomed the initiative as a milestone in protecting human rights and promoting social equality in Balochistan.
