BFA seals two factories, fines 27 centers on substandard & unhealthy food in Balochistan

QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) sealed two factories were sealed and fined 27 centers including baking units, spice shops, general stores, hotels and restaurants and meat shops on substandard and unhealthy food in respective areas of Balochistan.

In addition, 36 units were issued corrective notices for minor defects during crackdown.

BFA spokesman on Tuesday said that the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) launched crackdown against substandard and unhealthy food in respective areas of Balochistan.

He said that during the recent operations, food safety teams inspected various centers in Quetta, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Gwadar and Kuchlak, during the overall operations, 2 factories were sealed, while 27 centers were fined and 36 units were issued corrective notices for minor defects.

During the inspection, a large quantity of expired and banned items were seized and destroyed. An ice cream and ice kulfi manufacturing unit located on CPEC Road, Quetta was sealed for serious violations. He said that serious issues such as poor cleaning arrangements in the unit, unsafe storage of raw materials, no temperature maintenance system in chillers, unavailability of temperature records, lack of BFA license and product registration were revealed.

Furthermore, deficiencies were also found in the labeling of the products, including the absence of the manufacturer’s address and batch number, while the lack of cleanliness, sanitation and safety protocols was also evident, he mentioned.

He said that similarly, a baking unit on Sariab Road was also sealed where issues such as extremely unhygienic environment, use of dirty plastic and newspapers, leakage in machinery, non-registration of manufacturing and expiry dates on products and absence of pest control system were found.

The BFA spokesman said that the unit was issued a notice earlier, but strict action was taken for not improving, in addition, during the operations, 27 centers including baking units, spice shops, general stores, hotels and restaurants and meat shops were fined for violating the rules.

He said that the crackdown would continue to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to the public and any negligence or violation in the process of food preparation and distribution could not be tolerated.
