The PPP chairman has expressed grief over the death of PPP worker Mukhtar Younis
MUZAFFARABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 27th, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has alleged that a party worker was killed after a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate opened fire during polling in the LA-9 Kotli-II (Nakyal) constituency of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections.
In a statement issued on Monday, Bilawal expressed grief over the death of PPP worker Mukhtar Younis. He claimed that the shooting was carried out by PML-N candidate Sardar Umair Naeem, and questioned the response of the authorities.
“The information we have is that the firing was carried out by the PML-N candidate,” Bilawal said, asking where the relevant authorities and the Election Commission were at the time of the incident.
The PPP chairman further alleged that a video had surfaced two days earlier showing the same PML-N leader and his associates openly firing weapons. He claimed that had authorities acted on the earlier incident, the loss of life could have been prevented.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Bilawal also accused his party’s political opponents of resorting to violence out of fear of electoral defeat.
Separately, PPP leader Saeed Ghani, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, also alleged that the party worker had been killed by gunfire from PML-N supporters during the election.
Responding to the allegations, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah confirmed that one person had died and several others were injured in a firing incident during polling. However, he described it as an isolated event, saying no other major incidents had been reported during the election process.
Rana Sanaullah added that, overall, security and polling arrangements across Azad Jammu and Kashmir had been satisfactory.
The authorities have not yet issued an official statement identifying those responsible for the shooting, and the allegations made by the political parties have not been independently verified.
