CHICHAWATNI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) A blood bank along with a thalassemia and haemophilia centre on Tuesday was inaugurated at the Silver Jubilee Maternity Hospital here under the management of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society.

The facility, established in collaboration with the District Red Crescent Branch Sahiwal, was formally opened during a ceremony attended by senior officials and community representatives.

Among those present were Director General Nursing Punjab, Tahira Parveen, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, District Red Crescent Branch Sahiwal, Samiullah Farooq, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rana Aurangzeb, and Secretary/Vice Chairman DRCB Sahiwal, Pir Ehsan-ul-Haq Idris. Philanthropist, Sheikh Muhammad Afzal, PRCS Punjab Secretary General, Syed Mehboob Qadir Shah, Professor, Qamar-uz-Zaman Khan and Mrs Shad Masood were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Ms Parveen described thalassemia as a painful condition affecting children, praising their resilience.

She urged mandatory blood screening before marriage to help prevent the disease and encouraged the public to donate blood, stressing that it did not cause weakness.

She also highlighted the need for greater awareness about thalassemia.

Farooq commended the Red Crescent Sahiwal team for its consistent practical efforts and termed the institution a model of service.

He also paid tributes to Sheikh Muhammad Afzal for his humanitarian contributions.

Qadir Shah provided a detailed briefing on the organisation’s work.

The ceremony also included the formal handover of equipment, distribution of commemorative shields, and a vote of thanks by Dr Nighat Parveen. The event was hosted by Fauzia Saeed and her team.
