C&W Minister orders immediate covering of open drains along highways

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Feb, 2026) Punjab Minister for Communications & Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth has taken strict notice of open drains located along highways and directed that all such drains be properly and safely covered to prevent accidents.

The minister sought a detailed report from officers of the Highway Department regarding the condition and status of drains along highways across the province. He clearly instructed that all portions of drains not covered with slabs must be covered immediately and secured in a safe manner.

Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth said that the provision of safe travel facilities was the top priority of the department, and ensuring safety measures along highways was essential for protecting commuters. He warned that strict action would be taken against officers concerned in case of negligence and emphasised that the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif would be implemented in letter and spirit.
